Against Hate Speech in United Kingdom

Against Hate Speech in United Kingdom

5 Yıl Önce

I participated in an Erasmus+ youth exchange project which called No Hate held in Norwich / UK from 25 February to 5 March. In this project, England was the host country, and the partner countries were Turkey, Estonia, Macedonia, and Lithuania. The subject of the project was No Hate Speech and Discrimination. We had studied the subject of the project and discussed examples of discrimination in each country. At the same time, we tried to find a solution and we did some activities based on empathy. We worked with people from different countries and this gave us a different way of thinking and different perspectives. We compared ideas about the different situations that we might encounter and worked together in cooperation and solidarity. We learned about hate speech, particularly online hate speech. We got to know various national and international good practices and gained an understanding of the role of international youth work in promoting human rights and democracy values both on and offline through international youth projects. Also, we reached a mutual understanding of the concept of human rights, specifically freedom of expression, hate speech and terminology used. We increased participants’ knowledge on the topics: human rights, hate speech, hate crimes. We learned concrete tools for addressing hate speech. The most important point is receiving information on the Erasmus+: Youth in Action Programme and the Council of Europe’s No Hate Speech Movement. We talked about plans and develop small educational follow-up activity, multiplier events or campaign activity. This project was a very nice experience for me and it has contributed me a lot.
