Erasmus+ Youth Exchange in the British Virgin Islands - November 2-11,2023
Conclusion: The British Virgin Islands, a breathtaking paradise in the Caribbean, are famous for their stunning beaches and crystal-clear waters. But what happens when the desire for a clean environment and a sustainable lifestyle meets these beautiful islands? This was the central question of our project as part of the Erasmus Plus program, where Turkish and Norwegian participants gathered from November 2nd to November 11th, 2023, to explore the concept of “Zero Waste.” Beginning of the Journey: Our journey started with workshops and discussions, where we learned about the “Zero Waste” concept. We discovered how to reduce our consumption and waste to help the environment. It was inspiring to see that our Norwegian friends were already practicing many sustainable habits in their daily lives, and we could learn a lot from them. Memorable Accommodations: Our stays at Oil Nut Bay and Nail Bay were not just places to relax but also places to share ideas and experiences. We talked to locals to understand their strong connection to nature and how they’ve been protecting the island’s natural resources for generations. This taught us a valuable lesson about how traditional wisdom and modern sustainability can work together. Highlight on Virgin Gorda: The most exciting part of our journey was on Virgin Gorda, where we saw the “Zero Waste” concept in action. The islanders live by the motto of “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle” and come up with creative ways to avoid waste. We learned a lot from their innovative ideas. A Paradigm Shift: Our trip to the British Virgin Islands was more than just a project. It was a journey toward a better understanding of our responsibilities for the environment and our appreciation of nature’s beauty. It was a step towards a more sustainable future where we can all contribute. It was also a reminder that even in a small paradise like the British Virgin Islands, protecting our environment is crucial.
