BELIEVE IN YOURSELF AND ÇEVKA! Have you ever thought to participate in a project on an island which you heard the name for the first time in your life? I have not! Sometimes good things happen. It is not just because of your dream may be because of your expectation, hope, luck, or whatever you call it. I must admit that the project was like a dream and without ÇEVKA, it would be impossible to have this fantastic experience. Let me tell you about the project. Sport&Nature project was carried out in St. Maarteen island, which is a constituent country of the Kingdom of Netherlands in the Caribbean. Thirty-six participants from 3 countries ( St. Maarten, Turkey and Romania gathered together on 16-26 February 2020. The aim of the project was to raise the awareness of the importance of including sports and other outdoor recreational activities in the lives of young people in the communities of partners involved, emphasizing their positive impact on a healthy lifestyle. Our adventure started in Diyarbakır. It was winter, and our flight cancelled because of the weather condition, so we had to go to Elazığ airport. Thank God, we arrived safely to İstanbul. Then, we had around 3 hours of flight to Amsterdam, Holland. After that, the last flight took about 9 hours which is the longest flight in my life. When we arrived in St. Maarteen, I understood that half of the project is the journey. However, I can not complain about it. Because it was exciting, and I was pleased to be on the trip. During the project, several activities were carried out, which helped us to raise our environmental awareness and to make us conscious about the importance of sports activities such as hiking and team sports. During our stay in St. Peters not only we had a chance to try different local food like vegetable soup(includes cabbage, corn, banana) fried banana, coconut meal, yellow rice but also various tropical fruits such as coconut, star fruit, papaya, mango, pineapple and so on. They are delicious! Besides, we had a chance to learn about the culture and lifestyle of the people who live on the island. When you come across people, they say hi/hello! Even if they don't know you. It does not sound familiar. However, day by day you get used to it, and you say hi:) It makes you feel you have been living for a long time on the island. At the end of your project, you felt as if St. Maarteen was your hometown. I hope to visit St. Maarteen again. Maybe some people say you wish. Who knows? Let's see what the future brings. I want to thank Diyarbakır Environment and Development Association to give this opportunity, and I am so thankful to be part of this wonderful project. I will never forget what I have experienced, learned and gained. They are invaluable and unforgettable for me. This project was just a small step to the world. Believe in yourself and believe in ÇEVKA ;)
