FROM DENMARK TO WORLD

5 Yıl Önce

I turned back from the youth exchange whick took place in Nysted, Denmark, between 1-9 July 2019 and want to share my experiences. The topic was ‘Human Library’: Human Rights Education in Practice. There were 60 participants from 6 different countries ; United Kingdom, Denmark, Turkey, Lithuania, Italy and Republic of Macedonia. Human Library is essentially an event that strives to open a conversation between people of different backgrounds. Within our event, we applied a filter of negativity to overcome the “books'" past hardships. Additionally, the “readers” too had the opportunity to read pages that would not have been published and take home to grow from these taboo discussions. Further, to allow an intimate interaction with people they would not have crossed paths naturally with. While the end goal was ultimately the Human Library event, it would not have been successful had we foregone workshops and debates. These activities allowed us to widen our horizons via different perspectives. Within these workshops, we discussed underlining issues such as prejudice, discrimination, sexism, racism, e.t.c. Actually we did and shared more than the topic. During the project we had a chance to go shopping, cooking, cleaning together, even teaching how to use washing machine like we do in our family. We wanted to visit Nysted city centre and we tried hitchhiking.Even if it didn’t work we will remember this experience as an unforgettable memory. After 3 days we felt like we have been living for ages together. Because we shared not only our happiness but also sadness which include both success and sorowful stories. These are some of the valuable things I learned during my exchange. The most worthy thing is for me, I got back home in my suitcase with lots of friends from different paths of life and various part of the world, unforgettable memories shared with amazing people, impressive stories which changed my perspective.I have learned there is more than one way to do things, that things are not always black and white. Humans are the same everywhere, we just do things differently and speak different languages. On the inside, at the heart level we are all the same. I would like thank Diyarbakır Environment and Development Association for giving a opportunity to be a part of this project. I strongly believe that, we will meet again in near future in real life, project or any kind of life situation which will make our connection more stronger and will never lost! We have a big world family now, if you want to be part of a family, just join us and live the difference ! .
